# Choosing the Best Table Leg Format

## Seating Positions

### Corner Leg Formats (hairpins, single pins)

Generally speaking, [corner leg formats](https://hairpin.com/collections/corners) such as [Hairpin Legs](https://hairpin.com/collections/hairpin-legs) & [Single Pins](https://hairpin.com/collections/single-pin-legs) provide the most flexible seating arrangement. These type of legs provide maximum legroom and allowances for chairs being tucked under.

#### Square Tables

With individual legs placed in each corner of the table (approx 50mm inset) you can achieve maximum legroom and chair clearance.

{% hint style="info" %}
If pairing a bench with corner legs and you want to tuck it under, size the bench apperox 30 - 35cm smaller. The above image shows a 150cm long table with a 120cm long bench.
{% endhint %}

#### Round Tables

Single legs work especially for round tables. Generally speakling the number of legs should match the number of chairs/dining spaces.

### Fixed Frame Options

For [end leg](https://hairpin.com/collections/ends) and [full frame](https://hairpin.com/collections/table-frames) formats, a little consideration is needed when pairing legs with a table top to ensure you achieve a seating layout that will work best for you.

#### 6 - 8 People: 180cm x 80cm Top

Insetting legs in from the end by around 30cm allows for comfortable top-of-table seating at the slight expense of legroom and chair tucking for the side seats.

#### 4 - 6 People: 150cm x 75cm Top

As above, insetting the legs allows for comfortable top-of-table seating as the expense of side seating legroom.

#### 4 People: 120cm x 60cm

A 2x2 seating layout works well with 58cm wide legs at the ends. For a more flexible 1x4 arrangement, corner legs such as hairpin legs are a better choice. With corner legs it is possible to squeeze 6 small people / children onto a table, espeically when pared with stools or benches.
