# How to Improve Stiffness of a Table Top

## Why does it matter?

No matter how stiff and strong the legs are, if the top is allowed to flex the legs will move, resulting in a wobble and low quality feel table. If you intend to use the table for work or dining then strong legs combined with a stiff top is essential.

## Will my Top be Stiff Enough Without Bracing?

The table top needs to have enough structure to ensure it is stiff and stable. Without additional bracing this means the top needs to be made of a suitable material and thick enough for the overall size of the table top. We have put together some guidance on what might meet these requirements.

## How to Add Bracing

If your table top is not stiff enough, bracing will be needed to improve the overall strength and stability.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://support.thehairpinlegcompany.co.uk/table-legs/choosing-the-perfect-legs/choosing-legs-for-a-strong-and-stable-build/how-to-improve-stiffness-of-a-table-top.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
